And it isn’t just job security. If you want to keep up-to-date, get projects agreed, overcome obstacles when things start to go wrong, sell in a difficult market or simply have the stimulation of a range of different perspectives, networks are essential.

The knowledge economy of 1990s is fast being replaced by the network economy of 2000s and if you haven’t got a good network, you are going to be left behind.

Yet building networks can, for some of us, feel uncomfortable.
